“No one comes from the earth like grass. We come like trees. We all have roots.”

Hike + Write on Saturday
Find Your Roots at White Harvest Farms!
Join Us for a Hike + Write and CommUNITY Circle
Join us for a fun afternoon at White Harvest Farms this Saturday, Oct. 28, 2023. This hike + write + tour will bring together people from all walks of life to celebrate community, nature, and the Ribault and Trout River communities. Get ready to immerse yourself in the beauty of the farm and connect with community-minded individuals.
At River and Rock: Community Circle, you can expect an afternoon filled with storytelling, listening, and writing. Take a break from the hustle and bustle of city life and enjoy the serene atmosphere of this historic farm. Whether you’re a garden lover, a writing enthusiast, or simply enjoy time in nature, this event will feed your soul.
This writing circle will be facilitated by Tru Leverette Hall and is open to anyone in the community. We especially invite regular visitors to White Harvest Farm, folks who frequent the farmer’s market Saturdays, and residents of the Ribault River/Moncrief Road corridor.
As Tru says, ”Many people of color have been told they are unsafe in the natural world, despite the long history of people of color who are farmers, herbalists, fishers, hikers, nature lovers. What stories do we want to be told about our places in the world—about our connections to our neighborhoods, our rivers, our land? What stories from our past shape the present we’re now living, and what stories will we choose to shape our future? Let’s gather together and write our own stories.”
This event is a community collaboration with White Harvest Farms, Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) Jacksonville, the St. Johns Riverkeeper, and the University of North Florida.
All welcome. Register HERE.

What We’ve Been Up To Lately
METAMORPHOSIS: Opening Delights All
Artists + Writers + Speakers = Joyful Connection
We were so pleased to gather a lovely mix of folks to hear the voices of our artists and speakers last weekend for METAMORPHOSIS: The Art of (a) Change, curated by Tatiana Kitchen. We enjoyed speakers Melissa Ross, Nancy Powell, music from musicians Mamie Lue Anderton and Gina Martinelli, and of course, the art and voices of our artists: Sharon Goldman, Elena Ohlander, Anna Miller, Marsha Glazière, Nykia Jackson, Barbara Hionides, Maya Freeman, Julissa Marie, Deja Gee, and Dimelza Broche. Mark your calendars now for our Public ReadAround on Nov. 18 to see the show again!
