Join us for an outdoor opening and make community connections across town.
We’re exploring the theme of BRANCHES this spring—the branches found in nature, but also branches of women’s writing, art, family, community, and personal growth.
Curated by artist/UNF professor Louise Freshman Brown, this show features a gorgeous selection of 17 women artists who have studied with Louise, including Elif Akçalı, Dimelza Broche, Elizabeth Brown Eagle. Karen Chew, Teresa Cook, Cheryl Cummer, Toni Dewitt, Edmari Herandez-Silen, Laurie Hitzig, Andrea Jakes, Suzanne Magee, Emily Mitchell, Susan Ober, Anna M. Reynolds, Susan Watson, Krista Lee Weller, and Megan Welch, plus a diverse collection of artists in our Community Gallery, totaling 46 visions to inspire.
The salon-style Community Gallery in the She Shed will be open for free outdoor viewing (with ticket); a self-guided indoor tour will highlight our featured artists. Indoor tours limited to 3 people at a time only.
Branching Out Into the Community
We’re branching out into the community, too, collaborating with Yellow House on their Community Tree Project, and introducing you to an outdoor branch sculpture by Lola Hunter in Avondale near the home of artist Marsha Glazière, who will be giving private studio tours. Visit the nearby Native Plant Park for more outdoor fun. Map available at the opening.
You’ll also have a chance to talk with Louise about the exhibit, plus listen to featured writer Tricia Booker, whowill be reading new work on the theme of branches during the opening. Plus we will have plenty of other writers and artists on hand for informal conversations. Check the invitation for all the scheduling details.
Sidewalk Hospitality to Connect Outdoors
Our new “Sidewalk Hospitality” format is meant to keep you safe at this event but still allow you to see the work of our featured artists, writers, and a community gallery of women artists. Masks (double preferred), social distancing, and a ticket required to attend, regardless of your vaccination status. See the event invitation for all the details, including times and dates.
Thanks to Louise and Laurie Hitzig for designing both the show and the installation, and to Jen Jones Murray of JJM Creative for beautifully installing it. Signage provided by Atlantic Imaging.
