Looking forward to the Public ReadAround this Saturday, April 22, where we will celebrate the latest group of pioneering women writers of Women Writing for (a) Change, Jacksonville in our new “She Shed!” We’ve got more wonderful, talented women writers who have been crafting poems since early January during our Spring Series: Finding Your Poetic Voice; they will have some special poetry and stories to share.
We will also feature artwork from several women artists in our community: Sculptor Mindy Hawkins, painter and poet Alice Shinkos, and word and visual artist Carol Winner. Their work will complement our poetic theme and highlight the fact that we need more women writers and artists to be celebrated in our communities. (Did you know that in our national museums, only 2% of the work represented is by women? And even less by women of color?)
WHAT: Women writers reading their work
WHEN: Saturday, April 22, 2017
WHERE: A Riverside home garden and courtyard (1610 Osceola Street)
TIME: 6-8 p.m.
WHAT TO BRING: A lawn chair
RSVP: Space limited. Reserve your spot here.
This event also marks the debut of our new WWf(a)c “She-Shed,” a writing retreat space in the garden of this historic home. (Check it out in detail next weekend during the Riverside-Avondale Preservation Historic Homes Tour!)
We have just a few spots left, so come join the fun and experience some delightful readings, delicious food, and even a bit of music on the ukulele! See what this courageous and talented group of women is all about.
Hope to see you there. And thanks for the support.
