JOIN US THIS WEEKEND
🌿 You’re Invited: Bodies and Faces
Join us for The Art of Being Seen! Opening Reception Saturday, plus Artist Talk + Write Sunday
Join us for the opening weekend of our fall art exhibition, Bodies and Faces: The Art of Being Seen, featuring new work by mixed-media artist and Zora Neale Hurston Fellow Suzanne Pickett.
Opening Weekend Events
Two intimate gatherings will celebrate the intersection of art, story, and community—core to our mission of amplifying women’s voices through creative expression. We will view Suzanne’s vibrant, layered portraits, combining acrylic, ink, collage, and texture to explore how people and nature intertwine. Her art reflects both resilience and beauty, capturing the complexity of being seen in a world that often looks away.
Schedule includes a free writing circle
Saturday Evening, 5–7 p.m.
🎨 Meet the artist and view her work up close in our historic home-turned-gallery.
Sunday Afternoon, 2–4 p.m.
✨ Join us for an artist talk and writing circle featuring Suzanne, facilitated by Jennifer Wolfe.
Both Days
☕ Enjoy light refreshments and conversation in the house and garden.
This event is free and open to the public, though space is limited.

Enjoy a more intimate gathering with artist Suzanne Pickett at our Artist Talk + Write Sunday, giving you a chance to engage with her work and enjoy a free writing circle as well. A participatory way to understand art—and each other. [More info here.]
WHAT WE’VE BEEN UP TO LATELY
Having Fun in Fall Writing Circles
Hike + Write plus ”The Art of Play” Brings Joy
When we gather in community to meet new folks and try new things, it brings joy and connection—something we all need more of these days!
In October, new facilitator Olivia Vo brought together writers, readers, and playful spirits at Happy Medium Bookstore & Café for her practicum circles as part of her leadership training with Women Writing for (a) Change. A lovely cross-section of participants joined in—and good fun was had by all.

Coming up next: a new circle led by Autumn Rutherford, designed for young women ages 15–25! Spread the word to any young folks who might be interested. [More info here.]

ANTHOLOGY UPDATE
Our 2025 Anthology Nears Completion
Authors, Artists, and Editors Working Hard This Fall
Work on the 2024 Anthology continues under the direction of Managing Editor Jordyn Bowen as we complete the editing process and move into layout and design.
We are deeply grateful for the care and dedication of our proofreading team—Kate Hallock, Chiqui Chua, Sharon Scholl, Amanda Millard, and others—and to all the authors who welcomed feedback and collaborated with us to polish their pieces to their finest form. This is truly a labor of love.
We’re also delighted to share that we’ve secured Eartha’s Farm and Market as the site for our Anthology Release Party on December 6, with workshops on December 7. Stay tuned! —JW
