“When we sing together, we create a space where people can come together, share their experiences, and feel a sense of belonging. That’s something that’s desperately needed in today’s world, and it’s something that [community] singing can provide.”
—Dr. Johnson

WHAT WE’VE BEEN UP TO LATELY
Museum-Hopping in New York City
Gathering Ideas and Inspiration to take to Jax
One of my favorite summer rituals in New York is visiting museums with my family. Museums are cool in the summer, warm in the winter, and always full of amazing work.
This time, we visited the newly renovated Frick Collection, the new wing of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and my personal favorite—the Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) at Columbus Circle, overlooking Central Park.
What a joy all these spaces were! My daughter and I especially enjoyed the Gainsborough and Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres portraits at the Frick, while my son, his girlfriend, and I were captivated by the art in the new Rockefeller Wing, featuring newly presented and contextualized works on the Arts of Africa, the Ancient Americas, and Oceania. As we plan a future fiber arts exhibit, I was particularly drawn to the ancient Andean textiles. And the MAD Museum (I just love the name) always delivers inventive, out-of-the-box work—including fiber arts pieces by Dana Barnes in Untamed Gesture. Follow the highlighted links to read more about these exhibits.
We hope you’ll be equally inspired by the works of Jacksonville artist Suzanne Pickett, whose exhibition Bodies and Faces will be on display in our space this fall and spring. Save the date—October 18, 2–4 p.m.—to see the show!
Here’s to more art + writing + community in your future.—JW
p.s. Another great show is coming soon to Yellow House—keep an eye out!

The Last Word
“When people sing together, community is created. Together we rejoice, we celebrate, we mourn and we comfort each other. Through music, we reach each others hearts and souls. Music allows us to find a connection.”
—Peter Yarrow
