“I believe creativity is contagious, and when we put some of that into the world, it gets passed from person to person. Nothing that any of us makes or achieve happens without community. Period. We need each other.”
—Maggie Smith, Dear Writer
SPARK YOUR WRITING SPIRIT
“Dear Writer,” Let’s Begin!
Fall Sessions Now Enrolling and Filling Fast
We’re gathering for another season of Women Writing for (a) Change Jacksonville—writing circles, inspiring art, and the kind of connection that fuels creativity.
About that cover photo: it’s a snapshot from this week’s Fall Sampler—ten women shoulder-to-shoulder, writing together, surrounded by the bold color and energy of Bodies and Faces, our new exhibit by Jacksonville artist Suzanne Pickett. That spark is exactly what we’re inviting you into this season.
What we’re offering this semester:
- Featured Read: Dear Writer by Maggie Smith—a warm, practical companion for finding (or re-finding) your voice.
- Core Circles: Tuesday morning and Wednesday evening gatherings in our cozy Riverside space.
- Fresh Perspectives: 3 new circles led by our soon-to-be-certified facilitators, Autumn, Olivia, and Katie—thoughtfully guided, creatively inspired, and community-centered. Details below!
- Restorative Practices: Facilitator Juli Williams will offer a 3-part circle called Writing the Self: Mini-Series on Grounding, Growth, and Community, to help you get grounded this fall and write your way forward.
- Art as Muse: Pickett’s Bodies and Faces exhibition will surround our circles all season, offering color, texture, and conversation starters for your pages.
Why join now?
You’ll get structure for your writing, a circle that listens deeply, and prompts that help you move from “I should write” to “I did.” Seats are intentionally limited to keep our circles intimate.

WHAT WE’VE BEEN UP TO LATELY
Savannah Inspiration + Fall Gatherings
Gathering Ideas and Inspiration to take to Jax
I had such fun making a stop in Savannah on my drive back south from a summer in New York, visiting our immediate past Board president, Shani Hall, who’s on assignment there. We wandered through the Telfair Museum, strolled Forsyth Park, and even held a bunny!
Then it was straight back to Jax for the Tuesday Writer’s Lab workshop at the Murray Hill Library, followed by our Fall Sampler on Wednesday. In between, we hung the vibrant new exhibit by Zora Neale Hurston Fellow Suzanne Pickett. The theme, Bodies and Faces, is stunning—I’m sure you’ll love it.
Below are a few shots from our adventures. Hope to see you soon for more fun! —JW
P.S. Work on the Anthology is well underway, ably led by editor Jordyn Bowen. Stay tuned!
