Women Writing for (a) Change Jacksonville is a growing, vibrant community of writers and creatives. We are here to nurture and celebrate the individual voice by facilitating supportive writing circles and by encouraging people to craft more conscious lives through the art of writing and the practices of community.
For more than a decade, we’ve gathered in intimate spaces and large circles alike—finding solace and strength in a room of our own. We believe that each of us carries a unique and powerful story, and we’re committed to creating spaces where those stories can be written, heard, and honored.
Here, the door is always open—to possibility, to community, and to you.
What We Believe
We believe that any woman who writes is a writer. Writing is a way to make sense of our lives—to find meaning in the themes and the patterns we find there.
We believe in magic…the magic of protecting a safe space for words —and people— to grow and evolve, to gain clarity, to learn things about and from each other. We believe in “the acoustics of intimacy”…that by listening to each others’ stories, we connect in a way that nothing else can replicate.
We believe in lineage…in the threads of connection that tie all of us together…the energetic connections from the stars to the earth found in a cup of tea, a beeswax candle, or in a carefully offered salad.
We believe in hospitality. We believe in metaphor, in mystery, in birds flocking and seeds being planted. In poetry and quiet. In revolution and consent. We believe that your words, your art, your voice can transform you—and our community.
Our Story
We believe that by writing together and listening deeply to one another, we strengthen our community.
This community was born in 2013, when Jennifer Wolfe, a former journalist turned corporate consultant, grew tired of putting all her creative energy into corporate presentations. Following the desires of her heart, she found a new career as a writer and facilitator, returning to her writing roots. Then she discovered Women Writing for (a) Change® in Cincinnati—our “mother” school, founded in 1991 by Mary Pierce Brosmer.
Jennifer decided to create her own affiliate school in Jacksonville, and after licensing and certification, began holding circles in 2014 in her living room, at correctional centers, at the library, in hospitals, at women’s centers, in college classrooms, and in many other intimate spaces and places in Jacksonville. Mission and vision
Our mission is to nurture and celebrate the individual voice by offering supportive writing circles and encouraging people to live more conscious, creative, and connected lives through writing and community.
Our vision is to foster healthy, conscious communities where the words and creative expression of women, girls, and individuals—from all backgrounds and life circumstances—are nurtured, developed, and celebrated, contributing to positive cultural transformation and a more just and equitable society.
Our Leadership Team
As conscious feminine leaders, we lift up values that have long been suppressed; “truth-telling, empowerment, nurture-with-rigor, transparency, vulnerability, conscious collaboration, depth-orientation, hospitality, [and] the capacity to hold paradox, especially the paradox of fostering individual gifts alongside fostering planetary and community well-being.” (Brosmer)

We are a focused community, but not an exclusive one. While our core audience is those who identify as women, our circles are open to anyone seeking a supportive and non-threatening environment for creative expression. We encourage everyone in our community to help us create an atmosphere where the safety of others is validated.
Women Writing for (a) Change Jacksonville is unabashedly feminist and anti-racist. We are committed to becoming ever more intersectional, climate-conscious, and radically inclusive. We acknowledge the deep roots of systemic sexism, racism, gender bias, and environmental harm in our culture—and we believe conscious transformation is possible. We believe this is an individual journey but, as an organization, we can help facilitate that through the art of writing and the practices of community.
